1-800-PACK-RAT was founded in 2001 when a North Carolina entrepreneur designed an all-steel, weatherproof, portable storage container, jokingly referred to as the ‘Pack rat’ because of its ability to store everything. The designer then teamed with a heavy-equipment manufacturer and they build a system that can lift a fully-loaded PACK-RAT container and place it anywhere a truck can be driven. The company was born, and the first three store locations opened in 2003. Current CEO Bob Poirier came on board in 2005 and has grown the company to 50 locations within two years. The corporation is headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland.
