Chuck E. Cheese’s was founded in 1977 by Atari founder Nolan Bushnell, originally called Chuck E. Cheese’s Pizza Time Theatre, the first family restaurant to integrate food, entertainment and an indoor arcade. The first location opened in San Jose, California. The original concept merged with Showbiz Pizza Place in 1984, and in 1991-92 both brands were unified into Chuck E. Cheese’s Pizza, dropping to just Chuck E. Cheese’s in 1995. Chuck E. Cheese’s now has more than 540 franchise locations.
