Bally Total Fitness Franchise Opportunities – History

The Bally company traces its roots to 1931, when Raymond Moloney founded Lion Manufacturing, which was later named Bally Manufacturing, a maker of slot machines that eventually opened casinos in Atlantic City and Las Vegas. In 1983 the company purchased Health and Tennis Corporation of America and Lifecycle, an exercise bike manufacturer and by 1987 had become the world’s largest owner and operator of fitness centers. Bally further expanded with purchases of American Fitness Centers and Nautilus Fitness Centers, all consolidated under the Bally name in 1995. Today Bally operates 60 locations, many in New York City.
