Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield started their homemade ice cream business in Vermont in 1978. Today Ben and Jerry’s Homemade Ice Cream is the world’s most well-known ice cream brand with chains throughout the United States, Europe, Japan and more. It is known for its diverse flavors of delicious ice cream and environmental and socially conscious business beliefs. In 2000 Cohen and Greenfield sold their Ben and Jerry’s brand to Unilever. A Brief History Ben & Jerry's Franchises:
Ben & Jerry's began offering franchises in 1981 to Vermont-area residents. The firm later began offering franchises to all United States residents in the early 1990s after it began to offer its popular fat-free sorbet and frozen yogurt products. The success of these early franchises encouraged the firm to offer franchises on a global basis in the early 2000s after it became a fully owned subsidiary of the Anglo-Dutch firm Unilever®. The firm now helps more than 1,000 franchise owners around the world sell Ben & Jerry's most popular products
