Jivamukti Yoga was co-founded in 1984 in New York by Sharon Gannon, a dancer and musician, and her partner David Life, an artist and café owner. After training in India with Swami Nirmalananda, the couple returned to New York and opened their first Jivamukti Yoga Society. In 2000, they opened a second Jivamukti Center in New York’s Upper East Side, and in 2003, their students, Patrick Broome and Gabriela Bozic opened the first franchise Jivamukti Yoga Center, in Munich, Germany.
