In 1929, Marion E. Wade founded The ServiceMaster Company in Chicago, Illinois as a moth proofing service. Eight years later, Wade decided to broaden the company's services by introducing rug and carpet cleaning with products he personally designed. ServiceMaster sold its first franchise in 1952 and continued to develop throughout the following decades.
During the 80's and 90's, the company began operating under the name "ServiceMaster Clean" in addition to several new service brands operating under the ServiceMaster umbrella, including Terminix, TruGreen, Merry Maids, Furniture Medic, and AmeriSpec. ServiceMaster Clean now has over 4,000 locations operating in approximately ten countries, all of which are franchised.
