The Ground Round Grill & Bar was founded in 1969 by Howard Johnson’s hotel chain. Since 2004, The Ground Round has been owned by Independent Owners Cooperative, LLC, a group of 30 franchisee owners, based in Freeport, Maine. Ground Round has nearly 30 restaurants in a dozen U.S. states, mostly in the Midwest and Northeast regions.

The initial franchise fee for Ground Round Grill & Bar is $30,000 for the first restaurant and $35,000 for each subsequent location.
